Lithuania, a country in the Baltic region, has Lithuanian as its official language. The capital city is Vilnius.
Lithuania is divided into 10 counties, each named after its capital city: Alytus, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Marijampolė, Panevėžys, Šiauliai, Tauragė, Telšiai, Utena, and Vilnius. These counties are further divided into 60 municipalities.
Lithuania shares borders with Latvia, Belarus, Poland, and the Russian Federation (Kaliningrad region). The total border length is 1,732 km, with a 90.66 km coastline along the Baltic Sea. The borders with Belarus and Russia are also the EU's external borders.

Lithuanian, known as one of the oldest living Indo-European languages, is the official language of Lithuania. In 2021, 76.5% of Lithuanians were fluent in at least one foreign language. Russian is the most commonly spoken at 60.6%, followed by English at 31.1%. Additionally, more and more people, especially the younger generation, are learning languages like French, German, and Spanish.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is part of the United Nations System as the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, with 175 member states and a presence in over 100 countries. IOM has had a presence in Lithuania since 1998.
