Schengen Visa

Most foreigners visiting Lithuania for short-term purposes need a Schengen visa unless they come from a country with a visa-free regime. You can check if you need a visa on the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

Types of Schengen visa

A Schengen visa can be issued as a single-entry, double-entry, or multiple-entry visa. Additionally, a foreigner may receive a Schengen visa with limited territorial validity.

If you have a Schengen airport transit visa (Type A), you can stay in the international transit area of a Lithuanian airport while you wait for your connecting flight to another destination.

A Schengen visa allows you to:

  • Transit through Lithuania or other Schengen countries
  • Stay in Lithuania for up to 90 days within a 180-day period, starting from your first entry into any Schengen country.

A foreigner who wishes to obtain a Schengen visa can be invited by an officially verified invitation.

What is an Invitation?

If you’re planning a visit to Lithuania, getting an invitation from a Lithuanian resident or legal entity can be really helpful for your visa application. An invitation not only provides proof of accommodation but also helps with covering your travel costs, including your return trip or onward journey.

Having an invitation can make the visa process smoother by simplifying your application and reducing the financial requirements. Instead of showing €40 per day for your stay, you only need to proof €20 per day if you have an invitation.

Submit an invitation

Invitations are submitted online through MIGRIS. Both natural and legal persons of the Republic of Lithuania can submit an invitation.   For more details, check out this link.
