Staying connected is essential, especially when adjusting to life in a new country. In Lithuania, the telecommunications infrastructure is modern, reliable, and offers a variety of services to meet your needs.  

Mobile Networks 

Lithuania has several mobile network operators - Telia, Tele2, and Bitė Lietuva. All of them offer a wide range of prepaid and contract plans, allowing you to choose the best option based on your budget and communication needs. You can easily find prepaid SIM cards in most supermarkets, convenience stores, and operator shops. 

Mobile Plans

  • Prepaid Plans: These are ideal if you want flexibility and don’t want to commit to a long-term contract. You can top up your balance as needed. Choose from the following mobile network operators: Pildyk, Ežys, Labas 
  • Contract Plans: These often come with better rates for calls, data, and international services, but may require a contract commitment 

International Calls and Roaming

All major operators offer affordable international calling options, and if you're traveling within the European Union, your roaming charges are generally the same as your domestic rates, thanks to EU regulations. 

Internet Services 

Lithuania is known for having some of the fastest Wi-Fi in the world, and you can find free Wi-Fi in most public places. If you'd like to have a permanent internet connection at home, all you need to do is sign up with an internet provider and get a modem (for an extra fee). Whether you're renting an apartment or living in student housing, you can easily set up home internet through providers like Telia, Cgates, Fastlink, Init and others. 

Public Wi-Fi  

Public Wi-Fi is available in many locations, including cafes, shopping centers, and libraries. Additionally, most cities offer free public Wi-Fi in parks and central areas, making it easy to stay connected. 

Television  

If you want to keep up with the news or watch your favorite shows, Lithuania offers various options for both local and international TV channels. Providers such as Telia and Cgates offer digital TV packages with a wide selection of channels in multiple languages, including Russian and English.  Alternatively, you can access many international streaming services like Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Prime, which are all available in Lithuania. 

How to set up services 

To set up a telecommunication services, you will typically need: 

  • A valid ID (passport or residence permit) 
  • An address in Lithuania (for home internet services) 
  • A bank account (for contract or monthly payment plans) 

Staying Connected with Family Abroad 

If you need to make frequent international calls or video chats with family and friends back home, consider using apps like WhatsApp, Viber, or Skype, which offer free or low-cost voice and video calls over the internet.
